Olympian Homes Sponsors Intergenerational Walking Project

Developing and Growing the Group Walk Programme

Thanks to a connection made by the wonderful Joe at Social Vision, Olympian Homes has sponsored Move the Masses to develop and grow group walking activities across the city.

Move the Masses have been sponsored by Olympian Homes to deliver a project which will see more of our group walks taking place across different areas in York. This sponsorship will enable us take on a work placement student who will be tasked with developing our Walk Leader volunteer training programme and will recruit fellow students and young people as walk leaders.

This partnership will help people across different generations and ages to come together and connect, boosting their mental and physical wellbeing.

Olympian Homes are a development company looking to regenerate the former Mecca Bingo site on Fishergate. They have submitted a planning application to transform the Mecca Bingo hall into high-quality  student accomodation which includes a variety of rooms, social spaces and landscaped ground

Since we started to develop our plans for the former Mecca site, we have been keen to get involved with the local community and supporting this programme is a great way to enable this really positive project that will have major health and social benefits to many people in York.”

The project will be kicking off in October, and by January 2022 we aim to have more groups walks regularly taking place, particularly in the North and East of the city.

“The support of Olympian Homes is enormously appreciated and will allow us to deliver this programme and encourage as many people as possible to take part. The health benefits of walking are numerous and we’re excited to tap into the enthusiasm of students to bring fresh energy and ideas to our group walks.”
