Helen Carr - Project Manager, Move Mates

Helen has always loved being active, developing a passion for running at an early age. However, shortly after going to university, Helen became severely unwell with a rare chronic autoimmune condition. She went from being a fit and healthy young adult to finding simple things like getting upstairs, a challenge. During her recovery, a family member gently encouraged her to go with them for a walk up the street and back. This support to start moving again was the vital first step on the road to regaining her fitness.
Helen is now back to running for the sheer love of it and has completed the Great North Run three times, a goal she would never have achieved without the invaluable support from her 'Move Mate'! This is why Helen feels passionate about the Move Mates project. She understands, first hand, the importance of a buddy to bolster confidence and provide a much needed boost to get out of the door.
As Project Manager for Move Mates, Helen combines her experience in developing and managing projects within the voluntary sector with her consultancy expertise in evaluation and impact measurement of projects. She holds an MSc in Health Psychology and has applied her interests of health behaviour change, long term conditions and ageing well to many of the projects she has worked on. As an evaluation consultant, she is passionate about enabling the VCSE sector to capture and share the value of their projects with others through both words and numbers.
