Last year

2019 was a huge year for our small charity. We developed our physical activity program in York, running free sessions to get people active in outdoor spaces across the city and advertising the best local spots where people can exercise for free outdoors.

We also expanded our Move Mates project with the help of the Adult Commissioning team at the City of York Council and it has been a roaring success, with 328 buddy walks logged by our volunteers.

We also added two trustees to our board and developed a short and long term strategic plan so we can really focus on how we are going to enable more people to get moving and improve their physical health and mental wellbeing through exercise.

What's Next?

Our priorities for 2020 in York are:

  • Expand our Move Map to include every outdoor gym within the city boundaries
  • Develop our tech within Move Mates to make our back-end processes more streamlined and efficient for administrative staff
  • Create partnerships with local businesses to support our development
  • Improve our marketing locally so people know where they can go to get a walking buddy or to volunteer
  • Recruit fitness professionals as volunteers to expand our program of free physical activity sessions

As well as developing Move the Masses in York, we want to take the Move Mates project into Leeds and North Yorkshire too, and will be progressing this in the second half of the year.

It's going to be another big year and I would like to thank every single person who has supported us so far by volunteering, referring people to us, promoting us by word of mouth or social media or simply by attending our sessions and being a part of it.
