About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to create healthy communities by enabling people to improve their wellbeing through exercise.

We break down barriers to exercise, especially for those most vulnerable.

We provide flexible, rewarding volunteering opportunities linked to physical activity.

We empower people to reclaim their local public spaces as places to exercise.

We promote the physical and mental health benefits that regular activity brings.

Everything we do makes a lasting impact on the people who have been involved; the kids and parents exercising together in the park, the older person experiencing their neighbourhood on foot for the first time in ages and the volunteers gaining in their own personal confidence”

Our Projects

Wellbeing Walks

Our volunteers lead group walks which are more about the socialising and fresh air than the walking!

Wellbeing Walks enable people to socialise with each other in a friendly, unpressured setting. This increases confidence among participants and brings people together, providing an opportunity for people to make connections in their local community, which in turn tackles social isolation.

These group walks are up to a mile in distance, and the pace is very gentle, with plenty of opportunity to take a break, sit and natter.

“It’s an honour to lead such a dynamic and impactful organisation. I never tire of hearing the stories of the people we’ve supported and the real difference our projects have made to people’s lives”

Move Mates

Our Move Mates project helps people to get out and about with the support of a volunteer walking buddy.
We pair people with a Move Mate volunteer living or working within the same local community to meet regularly for a walk.

This can be a walk to the shops, to collect a prescription or simply a stroll round the local area.  Move Mates supports people of all ages to improve both physical and mental wellbeing. We provide the motivation, company and moral support to help people to become more active and less socially isolated.

Move Mates currently operates in York, but we can help if you’d like to start your own Move Mates project in your local area.

Move Map

Our website and interactive Move Map enables people to reclaim their local open spaces as the place to get active.
We give you free access to our Move Map, where you can see the locations of outdoor exercise equipment, find a local walk or get inspired with one of our workout challenges. Registered website users have the opportunity to log activities to unlock achievements!

Our aim is to reduce health inequalities by enabling people from all walks of life to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of moving.

“Mum very much enjoys her little walks out and I’m sure the fresh air and exercise help her to sleep better at night. Thank you so much for your time and kindness.”
