Gaining the confidence to get out and about Marjory's Story Marjory didn’t feel confident about going out for a walk; she was afraid she might fall, and this prevented her from getting out and about. Fortunately, the local Community Physiotherapist knew about Move Mates and thought this might be a good step for her. Marjory wanted to improve her walking and to be able to stop using a walking stick around the house. Marjory and her Move Mate walked together regularly for seven months and as time went on, she became more and more confident. “She left it up to me to say where we went and said she’d go at my own pace.” Seven months on and Marjory’s walking has become so much better and she no longer uses her walking stick in the house, which she is delighted about. Marjory said “You can get a bit frightened, but when you’ve done it you realise it’s not so bad. I enjoyed our little walks, the cold weather doesn’t bother me, I like the fresh air. I don’t need my Move Mate now but I will miss her, she was so sweet and lovely. Move Mates is a really good idea. It’s the kind of thing I would have volunteered for when I was younger!” If you are interested in becoming a Move Mate, you can find out more here.
